Procès-verbal de la séance administrative du NC-AATF le 21 avril 2007

La séance administrative de printemps du NC-AATF a eu lieu le 21 avril 2007 en Caroline du Nord à Chapel Hill au Smith Middle School pendant la réunion collective de NC-AATF et NC-AATSP.

La Présidente, Mme Kathleen Rhodes (East Chapel Hill High School), a ouvert la séance à 11h15 du matin. Elle a présenté un agenda aux membres présents et a bien accueilli tout le monde. Le procès-verbal de la réunion du 30 septembre 2006, publié dans le Bulletin et distribué par la Secrétaire, Mme Lisa Youngman (Phillips Middle School, Chapel Hill) aux membres présents à cette séance, a été accepté. Le procès-verbal est aussi disponible sur le site web du NC-AATF (http://www.ncaatf.org).

Le Trésorier, M. Dave Steegar (Campbell University), a distribué le compte-rendu financier du NC-AATF. Le chapitre a $2,201.35 sur des comptes en banque et $9,608.54 en actions en bourse. Le compte-rendu financier a été accepté.

Mme Jane Romer (Elon University), administratrice du Grand Concours, a annoncé que près de 2370 élèves ont participé au Grand Concours cette année. Il y avait moins d’écoles mais plus de participants. Il y a eu 250 gagnants nationaux de Caroline du Nord! Mme Romer a annoncé qu’elle allait bientôt envoyer les certificats et les médailles. Comme toujours si vous souhaitez participer au Grand Concours, envoyez un courriel à Mme Romer (romerj@elon.edu).

Mme Rhodes a annoncé que notre administratrice du Grand Concours a reçu le prix d’administrateur du Grand Concours de l’année! Félicitations à Mme Jane Romer! Mme Romer était invitée au Congrès National à Baton Rouge en juillet 2007 pour recevoir son prix.

La Vice-Présidente, Mme Teresa Engebretsen (Durham Academy) a invité les collègues à soumettre des idées pour les sessions de la réunion de NC-AATF de l’automne pendant la réunion de FLANC, du 4 au 6 octobre 2007, à Winston-Salem en Caroline du Nord. Envoyez les idées de présentations à teresa.engebretsen@da.org.

Mme Rhodes a annoncé que l’on peut soumettre les noms des professeurs de français pour recevoir le titre du Professeur de l’année ou soumettre des idées pour le Concours pédagogique en envoyant un courriel à Mme Nancy McElveen (Greensboro College) (mcelveenn@gborocollege.edu). Mme McElveen a annoncé qu’on peut soumettre un projet pour enseigner un aspect de la langue ou la culture française. Ce projet ou cette leçon doit durer environ trente minutes pour l’enseigner en classe. Le gagnant recevra un prix financier et sera invité à présenter la leçon à une réunion future. Après la présentation, la leçon sera publiée dans le Bulletin. Veuillez soumettre le projet ou la leçon avant la deuxième semaine de février. Puis Mme McElveen a annoncé que la gagnante cette année du prix du Concours Pédagogique est Leslie Bradshaw. Félicitations à Madame Bradshaw!

Mme Rhodes a demandé si quelqu’un avait d’autres choses à ajouter aux annonces et Madame Diane Adler, professeur à NCSU, a annoncé l’information suivante, copiée d’un courriel:

December 2006 : NC State Board of Education passed the following :
Licensing of Teachers for World Languages (QP3) : A proposal that would facilitate the licensing of teachers for world languages by utilizing proficiency assessments available through the American Council on Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) to validate the teachers’ language proficiency was approved. Individuals who already hold clear teaching licenses will be allowed to add a world language to the license by earning a proficiency rating of « Intermediate High » or better on the ACTFL oral and written proficiency assessments in the language. Individuals who do not hold teaching licenses but have at least a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution (or equivalent academic credential from another country verified by an authorized external agency) will be issued a lateral entry license in a world language, provided they otherwise qualified for lateral entry. To be eligible for a lateral entry license, the individual would be required to earn a proficiency rating of « Intermediate High » or better on the ACTFL oral and written proficiency assessments in the language in which the license was being issued.

Mme Rhodes a annoncé que le Congrès National de l’été 2007 aura lieu à Baton Rouge, en Louisiane, du 12 au 15 juillet 2007. Elle a recommandé d’y aller car la conférence est très intéressante et vivifiante. Elle a aussi rappelé les dates de FLANC, le 4 au 6 octobre à Winston-Salem. Ms. Leslie Bradshaw, French teacher at The Asheville School, was honored recently by the North Carolina Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of French (NC-AATF). At its spring meeting, held in Chapel Hill on April 21, 2007, NC-AATF designated Ms. Bradshaw as the 2007 winner of the Concours Pédagogique, the chapter’s annual lesson plan competition.
The Concours Pédagogique features an invitation for French teachers throughout North Carolina to submit creative and successful plans for teaching French language, literature, and culture at any level. Submissions are reviewed by the NC-AATF Executive Board, and winners are recognized at each year’s spring meeting with a certificate and a cash award. In addition, winners are invited to present their successful lesson plans at a future meeting of the NC-AATF, and their plan is widely distributed to other French teachers through publication in the chapter newsletter, The NC-AATF Bulletin.
Ms. Bradshaw, who taught French at The Asheville School from 1982-1987 and now since 1998, holds an A.B., magna cum laude, degree in Romance Languages from Bowdoin College and an M.A. in French literature from Tufts University. She has participated in a number of professional development opportunities for French teachers in the US and in France, including Advanced Placement Workshops in Language and Literature, summer seminars, and the Institute for American Universities in Avignon, France.
Ms. Bradshaw has taught French, Spanish, and music both privately and in schools and colleges in North Carolina, Maine, and Massachusetts, as well as English language and America civilization at the Université de Clermont-Ferrand in France.
Ms. Bradshaw is an active member of the American Association of Teachers of French and of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages. She regularly participates in activities sponsored by those organizations, and she is an active participant in activities of her school and community.
The 2007 NC-AATF winning lesson plan presents Ms. Bradshaw’s strategy for teaching and learning appropriate use of French possessive adjectives through personalized opportunities for their use. Her children, Nathan, 20, and Andrew, 17, and her husband David J. Bradshaw, Professor of English and Classical Literature at Warren Wilson College, feature prominently in the materials that she uses for these activities. Ms. Bradshaw describes these lessons as offering students a more natural context to apply French grammar and as offering students of different abilities the opportunity to “‘show their stuff’” as they simultaneously use material they have already learned and practice new material.
NC-AATF is proud to honor Ms. Leslie Bradshaw as the 2007 winner of the Concours Pédagogique and congratulates The Asheville School as it draws on talented and experienced faculty members like Ms. Leslie Bradshaw to foster the growth of its French program.
